Use of the Product
The Transfer Assist provides a safe and easy solution for a carer wishing to transfer a user who has some capability to use their lower limbs. Manual leg opening allows closer proximity to the patient for dignity in transferring.

If the product arrives boxed:
- Remove and unwrap the parts
- Place the base assembly on a flat surface
- Insert the upright assemblies and loosely fix the bolts
- Place the knee support pad in position and again loosely tighten the fixings
- Insert the handle assembly and secure using the fixing provided
- Now tighten all the fixings
- The product is ready to use
Adjusting the Product
The knee support pad can be adjusted up or down using the star knobs as shown
Transferring to the Transfer Assist:
- Ensure that if the user is starting from a wheeled device that the castors are locked
- Position the Transfer Assist close to the user requiring transfer
- Spread the legs on the Transfer Assist to give greater stability. Do this by pushing down on the foot pedal
- Apply the brakes on the rear castors, by pressing down on the locking tab
- Flip up the Seat Pads so the user can enter the Transit Assist
- The user’s feet should be positioned on the footplate. The user should then grab the hand rail. Using the assistance from the handrail, the user should now be able to stand and push the front of their lower legs against the knee pad.
- Once the user is fully stood, the Seat Pads should be lowered so that the user can perch on them. Once the user is secure, release the castor brakes by pushing up on the locking tab. The carer can then move the Transfer Assist using the push handles as shown below.
Transferring From the Transfer Assist:
- Position the Transfer Assist close to the seat or bed
- Spread the legs on the Transfer Assist to give greater stability. Do this by pushing down on the pedal as before
- Apply the brakes on the rear castors
- Ask the user to stand up using the Hand Rail as assistance. Lift up the Seat Pads
- The User can now slowly lower themselves in to the seat or onto a bed using the Hand Rail for assistance. The carer should hold the Transfer Assist by the push handles during this operation
- The user should now remove their feet from the footplate and the carer can release the castor brakes remove the device
- Ensure that if the user is starting from a wheeled device that the castors are locked
Safety Recommendations:
- Always wear appropriate footwear when operating the device
- The user should not be left unattended whilst seated in the device
- The user should not lean outside of the device’s footprint
- Do not exceed the maximum user weight of 204kg
- The castor brakes should always be applied except when the user is being transferred
- The device may not be suitable for all users. A risk assessment should be carried out prior to use. The user must be able to bear weight
- A carer should always counterbalance the device whilst is it being used by a user
- If used with a wheelchair, the wheelchair brakes should be applied and the leg rests removed prior to operation
- Do not tilt or lever the device during use. All 4 castor wheels should be in contact with the ground at all times
- The unit is designed for indoor use and should only be used on a level surface
Cleaning
It is recommended that the Transfer Assist is cleaned daily as a minimum. The device is cleaned down with a damp cloth using mild detergent and/or disinfectant. For example, a mild chloride disinfectant (solution of 10,000 parts per million) can be used. Excess water is removed from the device using a towel or a compressed air tool. The device is then placed in a suitable environment to fully dry.
Please note that the polyurethane blue seat pads should not be cleaned with a chlorine solution.
Maintenance
The following weekly checks are recommended:
- Check the brakes, the secure fixings and manoeuvrability of the castors
- Check that the Transfer Assist is stable, e. all four castors are touching the floor.
- The seat and knee pads are secure and not loose or damaged
- The castor wheels rotate and swivel freely
- Check that all fasteners are secure and not corroded or damaged
- Check that the leg adjustment mechanism operates smoothly and is not loose
